PSD2 (Payment Services Directive II) in Denmark – Implemented via the Danish Payments Act. The implementation of PSD2 in Denmark through the new Payments Act serves several key purposes:

  • To build on the principles of GDPR – placing data ownership in the hands of the customer.
  • To enhance security and increase competition in the payments market.
  • To promote innovation and ensure a more technology- and business-neutral market environment.
  • To create a more integrated European market for payment services.

As part of this framework, third-party providers (TPPs) may, on behalf of the customer, initiate payments and access account information from payment accounts – provided they have the customer’s explicit consent.

According to Danish law, you must be authorized by the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet) to gain access to PSD2 services.

You can apply for authorization via Finanstilsynet’s website.

Note on Greenland:

GrønlandsBANKEN is not subject to the Danish Payments Act, as the law has not been enacted in Greenland.

Therefore, TPPs cannot file complaints regarding the bank with Finanstilsynet.

Instead, TPPs must contact GrønlandsBANKEN directly in cases such as operational instability or other PSD2-related matters.
