For a number of years, the Business Fund has awarded its Entrepreneur Prize to an individual or company who, through their work, has demonstrated particular drive, commitment, and remarkable initiative – and over time, recipients of the prize have come from various parts of Greenland and from different business sectors.
The board of the Business Fund has chosen to award the Entrepreneur Prize 2018 to Qooqqut, represented by Mads Bek.
The award includes a monetary gift of DKK 25,000.
Chairman of GrønlandsBANKEN’s Business Fund, Kristian Lennert, explains the board’s decision:
“Mads Bek is awarded the Business Fund’s Entrepreneur Prize 2018 because, as an entrepreneur, he has – through great determination and perseverance over recent years – managed to establish and operate a restaurant located 50 km into the Nuup Kangerlua (Godthåb Fjord). A popular spot where the focus is on providing guests with a first-class experience.
With Qooqqut Nuan, Mads Bek has successfully developed a local attraction and created an excursion destination that appeals to both boaters and tourists. The concept has gradually been developed in step with the economic foundation that has made it possible. A wide range of experiences is offered – from gastronomy and fusion cuisine to the preparation of guests’ own catch, as well as overnight stays in newly built cabins.
Running a business under such unique conditions – where, in addition to dependence on ‘wind and weather’, one must also ensure the supply of electricity, water, and access in the form of proper docking and anchoring facilities – requires something truly special. We at GrønlandsBANKEN’s Business Fund see this as an accomplishment that demands commitment and persistence – qualities that Mads Bek has clearly demonstrated with Qooqqut Nuan.”
