What do we need to know about our customers?
Regulations require us to have knowledge of all our customers—regardless of who you are or how you use the bank. We are therefore obligated to verify your identity and will typically ask to see a form of ID.
Additionally, we need to know your purpose for having an account with us and how much you expect to use our services. If there is any doubt about whether the information we have is complete or up to date, we will ask for clarification.
If your citizenship is not recorded in our current information, we will also ask for this. This is important because we must document any tax liability outside of Greenland.
What type of ID do you need to provide?
We will typically request the following forms of identification:
- A copy of your proof of residence showing your current address.
- A photo of the ID page in your valid passport or driver's license, where your name, photo, and national ID number are visible.
Even if you have been a customer with us for many years, we will still ask for this information if we have not previously received it or if it has expired. Your information is sent securely via online banking, where you log in with MitID.
What do you need to answer?
If you are a new customer, you will be asked to fill out a form stating your purpose for becoming a customer and providing details about how you expect to use the bank’s services in a typical year.
If you are already a customer, we will periodically ask about the products and services you plan to use, your expected transactions, and your general banking activity. We may also ask whether you expect to deposit cash or transfer money abroad.
If there are significant changes in how you use our banking services, we are required to respond.
How we protect your information
We handle your information with great care. Your trust in us to manage your data confidentially is essential. Naturally, we comply with strict data protection regulations, so you can feel completely secure as a customer.

What we will never ask for
Although we may request identification or financial information, there are certain things we will never ask you for—whether by phone, email, or SMS. These include:
- Your card details
- Your personal passwords
- Your MitID login
